I always wonder how these gaming companies build up their concepts cause they mostly seem to fail and here I see fail again. Trying to get information from the community where half is retarded.
This information gathering is more to prepare the community on a new game where on release people say, well it doesn't look so bad after all, cause everyone thinks they had something to say about it. But in end it's not close to what ET made great but just some alternative console friendly game that my mom needs to be able to play.
What's always wrong with you developers and yes I can say it cause I'm one myself and I know when you create something you want your input in it and you want your idea to be a success. And that's also the main problem with game creators. ET has been running for 6 years now it has been modded to the max and there is so much feedback to gather on what needs to be improved and what needs to be saved.
Yet when the time comes on a developer to create a new game they disregard everything and some guy that normally plays the sims comes into the office screaming he had a dream and that the dream told him to make a game with lasers and one big fucking red button to active every event at ones. Or lets disregard everything to just copy certain games that seem to make lots of money and call it Calling At Duty.
This makes them come up with games like ETQW where they wanted to combine ET and Quake in one game. Yea I really heard people asking for that. On release the game was so shitty in movement and game play that it took months and months for a mod to make the game decent only to release that it was already months and months to late.
Later on a game arrives that's called Wolfenstein and on development they promised to listen to the community. Well what a piece of crap that was. A boring multiplayer with every single event binded to one button making you feel that you as player are to retarded to think on your own. Next to that the movement was carefully tweaked to simulate the subtle movement of a falling brick. The best joke was the leaked beta which on detection actually got announced as a beta and we could be assured that many things would still change. Well it was a great surprise that after buying the game you just as well could have used the leaked beta to play.
Developers like the ones that made Wolfenstein should be sued for delivering a crappy product. If I would buy me a nice car and it turns out that the engine can't run stable cause the company added a sand distributor next to my fuel pump making the engine choke I would probably drive with choking speed into the front window of the dealer asking for a refund.
Now to come back to the game called Brink. Why are they asking for feedback from a ET community when it's all open to grab there is ETPro, Jaymod, No Quarter, Etpub and many more.
All features that noobs to pro gamers want in the game are show in the mods, it's not possible to install the mods and explore them?
This game will again be a mix of console gaming with a bit of pc gaming with the goal to be sold to a broad audience, all though it's understandable that they make games to make some money.
Still I got the feeling they are all following a wrong direction when it's about gaming or maybe it's a lack of being creative or skilled at actually making games.
It used to be about the game play making a game you would enjoy playing and of course the games were still so small that real gamers made the games, games for gamers by gamers.
Now it's all about big companies trying to get the most out of games money wise, not caring about game play but only graphics cause that's what makes people buy the game.
Gaming audience are offered such low standards that soon you only get a DVD with one HD picture on it and if you complete looking at it for 1 minute you completed the game.
What is this trend to make everything in gaming so easy that it takes no effort anymore, games are being slowed down so much because my little boy freddie needs enough time to think about his
move and the consequence his decision may have. Or adding every single move you need to do in game under one button cause to many buttons confuse people. Everything in gaming these days
are made simple for the gamer cause developers imagine gamers have the IQ of a strawberry and think really slow.
Well maybe some are but let them play with domino blocks instead of video games. Games are being slowed down a lot,
I can basically say that the Quake3 Engine/Games are the last in its kind that have the
freedom to move and create speed. From my point of view it seems pretty logic to actually keep this speed and movement for the simple reason that people love speed, why do people watch Formula 1 or are amazed by the speed a certain object in RL has, cause it gives a kick.
Let's add this speed to certain games like soccer or basketball, everyone enjoys soccer and basketball when it's being played on a high speed yet in games they want to slow down everything cause that's what people seem to be needing, ya right.
Let's see another aspect, the learning curve. Modern games have a learning curve of fucking ZERO, cause again in the view of the developers gamers need an easy game.
Why?, well cause they are relaxing and don't want to spend time in learning anything. Well let's add soccer and basketball to it again, when you touch the ball for the first time you most likely will suck
but as you like playing with some friends you keep on going and after a decent amount of time you seem to be able to control the ball better, get better insight on your position in the field and where to move with the ball.
Some keep playing in the field with their friends just for fun on a "pub" level, others like the competition and move up and some even make it to pro making them the skilled people who the "pub" guys like looking at on TV or stadium.
For me a game is a game, meaning I don't see the difference in soccer, basketball or video games. But when i mean video games I do mean the ones that are actually based on the soccer and basketball concept.
So you can play it for fun but the game play is made out in a way that you can also progress and actually have the feeling that you're better then maybe your friend.
Now that the basic of gaming has passed, I'll tell about pc gaming that most developers see as something negative.
I always have the feeling they don't have the creativity at all to come up with something new that has decent game play and can still generate a decent amount of money.
Take Enemy Territory as example, the game has fast paced movement, free movement, constant action, different classes for different gamers and it has a learning curve.
Add this with all the feedback from the last years mainly from the different mods that have been made and you got yourself a nice starting point for a new game.
Of course every new game needs a few adjustments and if the mods can't provide with enough changes you could always have a look at adding a new weapon, removing a classes or adding a new feature like climbing or whatever makes the game interesting. Yet it should be done on a level that it doesn't kill the core of the game.
I won't say ET is perfect right away, many things could be changed especially the way of learning people the game and rewarding them playing the game in a better way. I gotta say that Quakelive has found a
great way in creating tutorials on how to improve you game skill. All this has been done inside the game making you learn the game in a easy way. The rewards been given in Quakelive also have the right approach. These serious and sometimes funny awards make people play on and try to climb up to the top of the learning curve.
Now we are at the money part, if Quakelive showed me one thing is that the system they created to load and play the game is so good and nice to use I would pay a small amount every month to keep
the game free from bugs and add new features if needed for pro's and noobs playing on the public or private servers.
For adds there would be room on the loading screens between maps and between the stopwatch rounds you just played.
At the moment gaming is going in a way that makes no sense compared to other hobbies people have and I don't see any logic in the way they are creating these new games. I just hope some new game will come close to ET or any other Quake3 Engine game. Will this be Brink? , No it won't.
